Found a job!

After searching for jobs for vain these days, I finally found one that is suitable for me - admin assistant in a real estate, property management company. The company is located in the management office in Townhouse apartment, off Cavenagh Road. Essentially, the company manages some of the condos in Singapore; complaints, repairs & renovation, utility bills, maintainence fees etc are managed by this company.

Before that, I went for interview @ recruit express for any job pertaining to admin/data-entry/clerk. They found me a telesales job selling credit cards but I was not interested. Of course there were other offers which require me to work till 5.30pm or 6pm or even a full sat which I can't commit as I have tuition classes/swimming lessons.

Having my much-coveted license, I even went to the expense of getting the job of a delivery driver. I was offered one place in a company dealing with frozen food but rejected it as OTs on sat are compulsory. Some company requires drivers with experience though. After some futile interviews, I dropped the subject of being a delivery driver. One company offered me the job which requires me to multi-task - answer calls, take order, type letters, deliver goods. I was very interested but they took one week to consider my application and it came after I got my job as an admin assistant.

On the newspaper, some advertised part-time/full-time admin needed. To my surprise, it was actually the post of financial advisor(insurance) that they want. I said I will consider in the future but not now as it requires me to go for training and certification.

Back to the point of my job as an admin assistant, the job spans from Monday to Friday 9 - 5.30 and Sat 9-1. However, one every Mon, Wed and Thus I left at 5pm for tuition classes and I will make up on Sat, meaning I will work till 2.30pm. Quite a boring job but time passes quickly and the people there are friendly and takes good care of me. Salary is $1200 including CPF. An hour is about $6.80.

Anybody looking a job can call recruit express. Its fast but you get only $5 or $6 an hour. Good Luck!

Job Searching...

I have been searching for jobs these days, going to interview, rejecting invitations, among other things. I felt that it was time to step down as a swimming instructor and find myself a proper job which spans from Monday to Friday 8-5 or Monday to Friday 9-5 and Sat 9-1. Largely was due to the unpredictable weather which caused many of my swim lessons to be cancelled or postponed. Another reason was because most of my clients find it hard to adjust to my tight schedule as their child was schooling. Hence, from almost 20 clients, I am now left with less than 10. I have also given some to my other fellow coaches, who will be taking over some of my clients.

Nevertheless, I will still be teaching swimming on a small scale, on sat or sun morning when I have the energy or free time to do. Most of my time will be spent on the new job, which I hope to find and start by tmr. Meanwhile, I was looking for admin/receptionist/customer service/delivery jobs.

Yesterday, I went for an interview at Mandai Estate. The employer there was looking for someone who can multi-task. One who can handle calls, type letters, do invoice, deliver goods, stock take and many others. I was very interested in the job as there were many aspects involved which means it will not be boring. I am still waiting for the employer to call me back. Hopefully, I can get it.

Otherwise, I will down for interview today again. Wish me luck!!!

My first day in school...

3 Jan 2007 was my first day in school as a relief teacher in Woodgrove Primary School which is in Woodlands. I came to know about the vacancy for relief teaching through a tuition agency. There was an interview before a general staff meeting was held on the Friday before term starts.

Intially the school offered me the position of being a primary 3 form teacher, teaching English, Maths, Science, PE and art. I was really caught unprepared then as I always had the perception that I would settle down as a relief subject teacher teaching science or maths, not to the extent of teaching so many subjects and being a form teacher!

I believe that the school is engaging me more like a full-time relief teacher as there was a lack of teachers in the school. Besides that, I will also have other duties to do like being involved in the life science workshop, decorating the science noticeboard and be involved in a CCA when the main teacher is not around.

Due to my various commitments giving swimming lesson and tuition in the afternoon and evening, I told the school that it will be impossible me to change my schedule to accommodate to the school's needs if I were given a class in the afternoon. Hence, I did only one day of relief in the afternoon and till today I had done another 3 days of relief in the morning. Tomorrow will be my last day as relief teacher unless the school has another teacher on leave for me to take over on an ad-hoc basics.
