Driving license, here I come!!!

Before my enlistment into army, my friend asked me whether I had interest in driving but I dropped the idea. Now, almost everyone has already started, or in the process of learning how to drive. Those who were faster have already gotten their driving license. I feel so left out of the race. It would be favorable for me to learn driving back then when I had more time, not like now when I am so preoccupied with my Ns life. However, I still can afford to spend some time on weekends.

I am determined to get a class 3 manual driving license by the end of this year, if not latest by January next year. And I am fine being a private candidate because of a few reasons. Compared to learning in school, a private candidate

* enjoys greater flexibility in planning and managing their time
* can make last minute cancellation for a particular lesson
* spends about half the amount of money to get a license

Of course, there are also drawbacks..
A school candidate:

* has a certain syllabus to follow to make sure he/she learn the essential skills
* has more priority in booking test dates
* has the benefits of sitting for mock exams before the actual theory tests

My current plan is to pass both my basic and final theory exams, then apply for provisional driving license and tp at the same time. This will save me the hassle to renew my pdl as it only lasts for 6 months...

Someday, I hope to get/rent myself a car and explore Singapore with my gf...haha..am I too ambitious?

My dream computer....

More often than not, I always get jealous when I build a computer for someone. Especially if it is a computer built for gaming with lightning speed, wide bandwidth, superb processing power etc...Just yesterday, it took me 12 hours all together to do research, mix and match the parts, compare the prices between different shops, buy the parts, assemble, format and install the windows and relevent programs like MSN, office, realplayer, flashget, adaware etc....

It was a tight budget $1100 computer designed for gaming...I was quite satisfied as I learnt quite a number of things and the owner himself (Andy) was so excited about getting his hands on his new computer intended for playing games like dota. I would say his computer is good enough for high end games and stable enough with a CPU temperature hovering below 40 degrees....

I always like the idea of building and customising computers for a few reasons:
1) will not get cheat by the vendors giving u the wrong part that is cheaper/second hand;
2) it is cheaper as it excludes the service, configuration, installation charges;
3) u can get the most popular brands of your computer components like kingston for memory;
4) u will not lose important instructions/serial no;
5) will be easier to upgrade saving the hassle of going back to the same shop;
6) sense of satisfaction for me and the owner;
and many more...

Now let me talk about my dream computer...
  • Gigabyte i945G-MF
  • Intel 930 3.0Ghz dual
  • Kingston/Corsair 2GB DDR-667 Dual channel
  • Seagate 160GB Sata-II
  • Benq 1640 Dvd-rw
  • Benq 16x Dvd-rom
  • XFX 7600XT XXX edition PCI-X
  • Boston 450w casing c/w one 12cm fan, two small fans
  • Benq/Viewsonic 17" LCD
  • Altec Lansing/Creative speakers
  • Sony floppy drive
  • Windows xp pro sp2
All these will amount to a rough total of $1750...but it is only a dream. Currently, i am still working fine with my 2.4Ghz computer but can't play high end games...with the computer prices changing everyday, who knows one day my dream computer will come close to $1000???

My hobbies/interests/pastime...

I have pen down my thoughts long ago on a paper but don't have the time to blog it...This weekend i can settle down a bit as i won't be going out much, thus having the time to blog about my hobbies...

When I was young, I used to collect phonecards, football club stickers. Phonecards especially of different designs and values ranging from $1 to $50 was my favourite pastime then when it was more commonly available and used. Handphones and other sorts of communication devices have now replaced the good old phonecards. I have surrendered my album of phonecards to my mum as my interested has dwindled over time....

I had a craze over football club stickers in primary school. Whenever I had money, I would purchase a packet of sticker to complete my album. The cards that were more rare came with a hard cover that can be easily felt with your hands. The shopkeeper was so annoyed at me as I would open up the whole box and feel each packet one by one to get the rare stickers I want. Eventually, after I grew tired of it, I gave my football album to my brother who was fascinated about stamps at that time....

Those who know me well will realise that badminton is my favourite sport. Since young, I never seem to grow tired of it. I was invited to join my secondary school team during sec 3 after an inter-house badminton tournament, thanks to my best friend yong kang who has been playing with me all this while. I had lots of exposure when I play with all sorts of players with different styles, skills, strokes and stuff. It was a pity I took up badminton too late. And I realise the importance of a coach from my ns friends who play with me during nights we are free.

Other sports which I like are cycling, water sports, rock climbing to name a few. Recently, I have been patronising the swimming pool weekly with my gf...quite tired but fun

Also, I like anything that has got to do with computers, be it assembling, troubleshooting, networking. Personally, I believe in customising & building my own computer as it is cheaper, more stable with a variety of goods to choose under a certain budget...Often, i visit sim lim square to help my friends build their comp, get updates on new goods, price updates etc...

In addition, I like to surf the net, listen to yes 933 radio, download mp3, and watch TV...
