What I want to be in the near future???

Until now, this question has left me pondering in a deep state of mind occasionally...

I am uncertain about my future and the kind of job that I will undertake. I don't know what will suit me, match my interest and whether my passion for that job will last...

Between NUS, NTU, NIE and SMU, I choose NUS for a few reasons. Firstly, the campus is just a short 10 mins bus ride from my home. Next, my gf is studying there. Thus, we can visit each other whenever we are free or drop by in between our breaks and we can go home together. In addition, I have been to the campus a few times and I like the atmosphere and scenery there. Lastly, I have already oriented myself to the uni itself.

NTU, on the other hand, is less accessible from my house and I feel that NUS has better facilities, better teaching profession, a more conducive environment...

As for NIE, my career option will be restricted to being a teacher...

SMU is a no-go as I had no intent of studying business management, economics or starting a business...

Considering NUS with the myriad of faculties to choose from, I made my choice to enter the Faculty of Science due to my strong interest and passion for science...Because of economic considerations, the need to write essay and attend an interview, I didn't choose the Faculty of Medicine. More importantly, my desire to be a doctor a few years ago has diminished. For the field of engineering, it is largely because of the workload and the amount of maths that set me back.

Contrary to popular beliefs that science degrees only lead to teaching, career options in private and public sectors available are aplenty and varied. I might contemplate being a researcher/scientist in the R&D sector in the future.

My mother and second aunt has been telling me since young that being a teacher is lucrative with the increasing demand for teachers in Singapore coupled with attractive salary and deals. My third aunt once told me to be a gynae while she complained about the fees she had to pay for labour.

I applied for various vocations in the airforce during my BMT and got shortlisted for interview. I was interested for the post of pilot but I failed the computerised pilot selection test. The next vocation that I have a liking for was C3 (command, control, communicate) officer but I flunked the interview primarily because I got a bad grade for my GP during prelims. I was offered ADA/UAV/AEO but I am not interested. After I ORD, i will reapply for the post of pilot to try my luck. Meanwhile, I will also apply for the post of naval officer. I am skeptical that I will be selected as I didn't manage to get into OCS. But things may change when I got a degree in a few years time....
