Poor computer...
Yesterday, I went to Sim lim square with my gf to buy computer parts for her new customised budget system after we spent some time in NUS open house..
Before shopping for the parts, I will always check out the availability of the part(s), the current market trend, compare the prices of every single part/bundle between several shops in Sim Lim...of course with the limited budget and the reputable brands in mind...how fast u want the computer to be, whether u want to use it more for projects or gaming are also some of the factors...
To state a few, Best Bargain, Dat, Video Pro, Bliss, Bell are the shops that I did the comparison...After hours of mix-matching, I came to the following combination:
- Asus GV-MX mainboard with onboard VGA/6 channel Sound/Lan/SATA/
8 USB/PCI-Xpress/800 MHz FSB
- Intel celeron 2.8D CPU
- Kingston 512MB DDR-400 Ram
- Maxtor 80GB ATA-133 8MB HDD
- 450W Casing
I brought the parts from different shops and it amount to a total of $500...still remember I brought my first Pentium 2 computer during P5 for $2000..the Pentium 4 comp that I am using now costs around $800...
Competition is getting harsher with more shops selling the same things...the one that will emerge victorious will be the one with regular customers, reasonable cheap goods, good service and customer relations, wide variety of goods, good technical support etc...
My gf is so inquisitive on the way back as she constantly bombards me with questions...I almost vomit blood...haha
After I assembled the parts together and formatted the hard disk, the computer came to a stand still...no matter what I do, when I turn on the power, nothing happens...I check the power supply, ram, CPU to make sure they are installed properly..everything was okay and I suspect something is wrong with the motherboard...It was about 10.30pm then and I sent her home...
I tried again and again to power on the system but it failed...I gave up hope...To make things faster, I tried to install win XP using my own comp but doing so made my computer crash...haiz...I had to reformat my comp and install back the software...by the time it was 2am...time for bed...
This morning I went back to Sim lim to fix the problem...reach there around 11.15am without knowing that the shop opens at noon...I was referred to the technician and together we solved the problem...he too don't know the real reason why that happened...he did what I did at home to the comp....he suspect the motherboard had short circuited and wad he did was to reset the BIOS......why didn't I thought of that at home...maybe I was too tired then...Anyway, they charged me for the short service...
Then my uncle fetch me home, I reformatted it, install windows, drivers and finally the computer is done...can send it to my gf loh...so happy...
